The architects who never call your rep
A regional distributor lives on relationships. The reps who visit, the price book in email, the architect who saved your cell number five years ago. That network still wins jobs, yet every new office on a California project starts with a search, a spec section, and a shortlist of names the buyer already knows.
BIM Engine's building materials marketplace is supply-first in California so your catalog can reach those specifiers and general contractors before anyone picks up the phone. Listing is free, self-serve upload needs no sales call, and you keep fulfillment, pricing policy, and takedown on your side of the relationship.
Why distributors list on BIM Engine
New demand. Published SKUs show up where architects already work: live material schedules, public marketplace search, and project packages that carry quantity and spec section on every line. You are not buying a static directory row; you are entering the workflow that becomes a request.
Higher win rate. RFQs arrive with the line items, units, and dates attached, crossed against your catalog where we can match them. You quote what was specified instead of guessing from a paragraph in an email.
No leaked deals. Quotes and revisions sit on the same record as the contractor's leveling board, so an award is visible to your team rather than lost when a thread goes quiet.
These are the same promises on the supplier platform page: catalog where specifiers work, pre-qualified requests, and every quote tracked toward an award.
Three steps to a live catalog
The list your catalog free funnel is built for a first publish in about an hour.
- Create a supplier account. Sign up as a supplier and tell us who you are. Onboarding preselects the material supplier path when you arrive from the list-catalog campaign.
- Upload catalog. Open the import wizard in the supplier portal and choose how products should enter.
- Review and publish. Confirm extracted rows, publish list prices to the public marketplace, and start receiving RFQs through the supplier portal.
If you already have a BIM Engine login, skip straight to the import wizard from the same section.
Upload paths: URL, CSV, portal, and partner SFTP
Website URL. Paste public product pages. We extract SKUs and attributes from the pages you already maintain.
CSV spreadsheet. Drop an ERP or PIM export. Include SKU, product name, brand, MPN or GTIN, category, unit of measure, and list price where you publish it. Our column mapper handles most distributor exports; a template CSV is available for the fastest first upload.
PDF or images. Scan a price book or spec sheet when that is what you have. OCR pulls products page by page for review before publish.
Supplier portal. After onboarding, the import wizard lives under product import in the supplier portal. You can switch methods anytime before publish and request takedown from account settings later.
Partner team and SFTP. Large or recurring feeds can use a secure SFTP drop with the same CSV shape or a BMEcat export; a batch worker ingests in parallel and deduplicates on GTIN and MPN. Become a supplier partner when you want the partner team to provision SFTP or walk a Catalog Day ingest with you.
You do not need Stripe Connect configured to publish list prices on the public marketplace. Connect payouts can follow once you are ready to award orders through the platform.
California first, then depth in your category
Physical products need local depth before national breadth. Wave 2 targets Los Angeles, the Bay Area, San Diego, and Sacramento so architects see overlapping suppliers in finishes, lumber, MEP, and hardware. Sending one request to several matched suppliers switches on per category only after at least two distributors carry real depth in that aisle, which is why paint and tile lead lumber and hardware.
New York and other states follow after California category liquidity gates pass, with their own supplier cohort rather than copied rows labeled national coverage.
List free, keep fulfillment
By publishing, you grant BIM Engine a non-exclusive license to display list prices and product data on the marketplace. You keep pricing, fulfillment, and the right to request takedown anytime from the supplier portal. List price only: account pricing may vary, and display is not an exclusive lock on how you sell elsewhere.
Browse the California catalog as a specifier would, then list your catalog free when you sell into those metros. For a conversation before upload, use become a supplier partner and tell us what you make and where you ship.
